Artist's Comments

I did this 28 yrs. ago and my eldest daughter (the model) wanted even then to be a model. She just didn't have the same vision that I had, i.e. hot, dusty, dirty, Tucson desert sun. Today she is a model/airline attendant in Atlanta. Her catwalk is a little different. Pastels.

the light on that little tummy and the pose..I love the dark colours in this one, gives it a bit a strange feel, for often bright colours are used when portraying a kid. Nice story to it too, good combination!

:wow: How cute she looked! And at that age, she already knew about the fashion of the future...clothings showing off tummy:giggle: And that far back, your drawing and colors were already works of a master  :worship: :salute:

This is so great, even if it comes over as a bit dark, but that might be different in reality. The pose is adorable, those pants at half-mast and that tummy sticking out.... :lmao: You just want to hug her!

We need a word that means "Degas-ish." I'd use it commenting on your art frequently. =) I've always liked this one. It was only recently that I realized most (if not all) of the pastel strokes in the background all angle at 45 degrees toward the upper left. That is a strategy that I like to use, although not in that same direction. It adds a rhythm to the piece that I really like. Nice one!

At that time I was more influenced by Degas (I still admire him) and that is visible in this one, I think. 1 1/2 years ago I got to see a lot of his work at the NY Metropolitan Museum of Art and got to see up close his strokes and approach. I was surprised at the broad strokes he used in some of his work. Thank you for noticing and all your help.

It is a little lighter in person. I'm anxious to do the updated version of her as she turned into a striking beautiful and wonderful woman. Thank you. :rose:

She was and is, a person way ahead of her time. She fascinates and amazes me to this day. :rose:
